People Magazine Throws Tom Cruise A Pity Party: “Inside His Life Alone”

When Katie Holmes expertly blindsided Tom Cruise with divorce papers, it took so long for his asleep-at-the-wheel legal team to react that, while reaching, they countered that they were stalling on purpose to give Holmes more time to throw a pity party in the tabloids. Remember? Cruise’s lawyer was impertinent at Holmes playing, and winning, sympathetic public opinion. Incredulous that she would dare speak out, or stage photos, or leak sympathetic stories (she didn’t need to, she was always seen as the oppressed beard-wife).

And now, months later, and an admission that he rarely sees his daughter because he’s currently busy working, Cruise is playing the same tabloids. Even though it’s apparently beneath him.

In soundbites undoubtedly planted by his team, he’s on the cover of People Magazine that says “Tom Cruise: Inside His Life Alone. Trying To Start Over. Constant calls to Suri, tension with Katie, the truth about his world now and how he’s trying to heal.”

Here’s the story that follows Cruise out in London looking happy and relaxed in the company of friends, not having seen his daughter in nearly two-months, saying it’s Holmes’ fault Cruise hasn’t seen his daughter because he’s working abroad and the child’s no longer home-schooled which worked better with his schedule. His. Schedule. It’s loaded, and obvious, doesn’t feel very contrite.

Tom Cruise is dealing with a new, and very unexpected, reality.

Based in London since mid-August, where he is deep in pre-production for the sci-fi action film All You Need Is Kill, the 50-year-old actor has been unable to see his 6-year-old daughter for nearly two months. (The pair were last together on Aug. 5, following a Walt Disney World vacation.)

“I’ve got to see her,” an emotional Cruise told a friend recently. “I miss her.”

Several sources tell People in this week’s cover story that the actor’s rigorous film commitments, which he made well before his ex, Katie Holmes, filed for divorce and sole custody on June 29, have presented an exceptional challenge in terms of seeing Suri.

With Suri now based full time in New York City, where Holmes enrolled her in Manhattan’s private Avenues school, she has far less flexibility to visit him on set than under her previous home-school arrangement. Several sources say that a planned visit to London in mid-September was called off.

Still, the newly minted first-grader is a fixture in her father’s life, speaking with him several times a day.

“I can tell you that I haven’t had a meeting with Tom that was not interrupted by a phone call with his daughter,” says his friend, screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie. – via People Magazine.
