Star Magazine: Is Tom Cruise “Leaving Scientology For Love”?
This week’s Star Magazine is also reaching, hot on the heels of the pity party People Magazine threw for Tom Cruise.
The People cover talks about Cruise working in England and only having phone contact with his daughter for nearly two-months (blaming Katie Holmes for offering their six-year-old routine, putting the child into the school system and not just home schooling her because it’s convenient for Cruise’s schedule). Star’s cover is a little more of the same: “pity poor Tom” who’s lonely after three failed marriages and now a fractured relationship with his youngest child.
The star cover says: “World Exclusive: Tom Cruise Leaving Scientology For Love? After three failed marriages, a slumping career and the fear of losing Suri, Tom is desperate for a new wife (Tom and Cam get cozy in London).”
That last part, Cruise’s people have been trying to make something happen with Cameron Diaz for a while. Yesterday, there was even a story from the UK tabloids who claimed Cruise tried to make it happen with his former co-star at her 40th birthday: “Tom and Cameron get on really well. Tom thinks Cameron is beautiful, intelligent and a lot of fun. He’d love for them to be more than friends. Tom’s felt so low since his divorce and Cameron’s company has really cheered him up. Cameron loves spending time with Tom, but in many ways she sees him as a brother figure. At the moment she’s just enjoying reconnecting with an old friend.”
The Star story, however, is more about Cruise’s supposed desire to leave the church that’s oppressing his personal life.
Could Scientology’s most famous ambassador be parting ways with the church?
A shocking report in the new issue of Star magazine, which hits newsstands Friday, details recent twists in Tom Cruise’s life that’s spurred speculation the [actor] might be inching away from the controversial institution he’s become synonymous with.
“Tom hasn’t admitted that he’s definitely leaving Scientology for good,” an insider says of the new developments. “But he’s distanced himself from those in the church and has been hanging out with good friends who aren’t part of the religion.”
Sources say an introspective Tom, 50, is weighing the damage his affiliation with the controversial church has done in his relationships with ex-wives Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidman, as well as ex-girlfriend Penélope Cruz.
“Tom’s been leaning on friends who have different perspectives, getting advice on moving on from Katie as well as on everything he’s been going through with Scientology,” the insider said. “He’s finally seeing that being such an advocate for Scientology hasn’t served him as well as he’d hoped… he’s gone through three divorces, and his public perception has sunk to an all-time low.”
And if that didn’t provide enough food for thought, the Mission: Impossible star is pondering what impact his devotion to the cause might have in his relationship with his only biological child, Suri, who Katie holds primary custody of. Tom has shown to be a very devoted father to Suri in the past, setting up some difficult decisions to make if the church drives a wedge between he and his daughter in the future. – via RadarOnline.
