Oxygen Reality Show ‘Too Young To Marry?’ Paid 17-Year-Old Girl $5,000 To Wed On Camera

Oxygen’s latest reality show announced back in January to little fanfare, Too Young To Marry?, has something in common with the likes of MTV. For example, it’s alleged that MTV’s Teen Mom is bribing the young mothers and enabling them to make poor decisions by paying them to have more kids. It’s alleged Jenelle Evans in particular considered a financial incentive in wanting another child late last year. And TMZ.com alleges that Oxygen is doing the same, by paying a teenage reality star $5,000 for being part of the show and getting married on camera.

For those who missed it, here’s the log line: “They might not be old enough to buy a six-pack or vote, but these couples think they are old enough to say “I do.” This drama-filled docu-series, formerly known as “Teen Weddings,” follows opinionated teen couples who are determined to walk down the aisle with or without the blessings of their family and friends. With parents threatening to disown them or cut them off financially, older and wiser siblings begging them not to make the biggest mistake of their lives and friends pulling them in opposite directions, these young lovers must battle it out with the haters and doubters to prove that age doesn’t matter and their love is forever.”

The show was confirmed as green lit early January. And TMZ has information about the cast contracts.

Jurnee Mroczek, 17, above, who met husband Don Atkinson, 20, at a volleyball game in 2009, earned $5,000 to appear. Her contract “also obligates her to do voice-over work. The contract also provides for exclusivity, presumably meaning she can’t get married a second time on another reality show.”
