Universal Denies Dropping Kristen Stewart; She Doesn’t Understand All The Hate

August 16, 2012 by Hollywoodite

Throughout this week, it’s been reported by industry-adjacent outlets like The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.com (as in, not the tabloids) that Universal has been making plans to turn the Snow White & the Huntsman sequel into The Huntsman’s spin-off. With Kristen Stewart and the original screenwriter being dropped. Except, the following day, Universal told the L.A. Times the reports were premature and, although the movie will likely be The Huntsman not SWATH 2, Stewart would be welcome to cameo (basically).

And now Universal’s co-chairman Donna Langley issued another statement to Entertainment Weekly saying this: “We are extremely proud of Snow White and the Huntsman and we’re currently exploring all options to continue the franchise. Any reports that Kristen Stewart has been dropped are false.” So, not fired, just her role has been reduced from lead to supporting.

In another story this morning that sounds leaked from Stewart’s camp, TMZ.com says she cannot understand why she’s getting the brunt of the negative backlash.

It appears director Rupert Sanders’ career may flourish from the scandal (he’s less-famous, he’s male, he’s older, and he’s behind the camera so it would affect him less). That is, Deadline reports that Universal acquired the rights to a crime novel adaptation specifically to give Sanders as an upcoming project. Ugh.

Whereas Stewart removed herself as lead from Cali, she’s shying away from promoting On The Road, and she’s reportedly “too ashamed” to go on red carpets now. Although, she’s rumoured to appear at TIFF soon.

And TMZ says Stewart doesn’t get why, as the ingenue, she’s getting so much heat for cheating (because: she invited the criticism with her apology, she’s female, she’s young, and she’s the more famous of the two in the affair).

Kristen Stewart has publicly shown remorse over her affair with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, but privately she is furious she’s taking all the heat.

Kristen can’t believe the public isn’t painting Rupert Sanders as the bad guy. She’s [complaining] that he’s 19 years her senior and was “in a position of power over her” being a director of a movie she had just shot and presumably someone she was going to work with again.

Kristen is also incensed that she’s being called the big cheater. Although she knows she shouldn’t have done it because she was in a committed relationship with Robert Pattinson, she feels Rupert is in a totally different and far more culpable situation, being married with two kids.

Kristen fears her career may be irreparably damaged; something she believes she doesn’t deserve as a 22-year-old single woman who made a stupid mistake. – via TMZ.
