Us Weekly Magazine Angry They Got Kourtney Kardashian Instead of Kim Kardashian?

Two weeks ago when Life & Style published lies on its cover with a fake postpartum exclusive, it was allegedly a competitive move to date the Us Weekly exclusive cover that would be released a week later.
It sort of worked, although Us Weekly were the only ones who landed the weight loss exclusive in which Kourtney Kardashian was revealed to have lost “44 lbs in six months” (Life & Style basically guessed the correct weight the week prior by putting a “45 lbs weight loss” on its fabricated cover story).
Us Weekly was basically cheated out of an exclusive not once, but twice. Once by a competing supermarket weekly, and once by the Kardashians themselves.
Kim Kardashian is about 13 weeks pregnant right now, and so she was probably pregnant at the time Kris Jenner was negotiating with Us Weekly about Kourtney Kardashian’s weight loss story. Jenner held back the pregnancy story in favour of a weaker one but then Kanye West broke the news for free during one of his concerts. So no one made money from the announcement. Certainly not Us, who were reportedly never even offered the information. And according to sources, the magazine is angry with the family.
Us Weekly hits stands nationally Friday with a huge Kardashian exclusive… too bad it’s not the one you want to read about. Kourtney Kardashian, not newly pregnant Kim, graces the cover, gushing about her 44-pound weight loss since giving birth to baby Penelope five months ago. Kinda makes the celeb mag look dated.
The weekly gossip magazines all missed printing a story about Kanye’s announcement on Sunday at his Atlantic City concert, and can blame the New Year’s holiday schedule, along with matriarch Kris Jenner, for not tipping them off about Kim. Because presses were closed on Tuesday, Us, which goes to print every Tuesday, closed the latest issue on Friday and went to print Monday. Now editors are fuming about the bad luck, because Kourtney was paid $200,000 for the exclusive photo shoot and interview about her post-baby diet.
“Us paid for the Kardashian exclusive… they are livid now. After all the press they’ve given the girls, they’re furious,” says an Us insider. “Clearly Kris knew about this. She negotiated Kourtney’s deal with them. They’ve given the family millions over the years for exclusives; they expected at least the first tip.”
In addition to infuriating editors, Kris feels like she lost a potential $500,000 paycheck that Kim could have gotten for her [pregnancy] announcement if Kanye West hadn’t instructed the crowd to “make some noise for my baby mama.” But another magazine higher-up tells Confidenti@l that Kim’s payday would have been much lower… more like $100,000.
“Sometimes the baby announcement sells more than the baby pics,” says the Us insider. “Kris runs that family like a machine. She wanted the control over when and where they make their money. The contract states that they have Kourtney exclusively for two weeks, but they’re more interested in Kim.” – via New York Daily News.
