PHOTOS VIDEO What Did Julie Chen Look Like Before & After Plastic Surgery To Look Less Chinese?

September 12, 2013 by Hollywoodite

Julie Chen admitted it “stings” when she heard the racist Big Brother season 15 housemates use racial slurs against the other housemates. Including insults aimed towards an Asian American housemate who was passive-aggressively and indirectly told to “go make some rice.” Which was so everyday for housemate Aaryn Gries, for example, Aaryn didn’t even remember saying those things, lied that the live feed had somehow been “taken out of context” then offered a non-apology if she offended anybody… but insisted everyone in Texas is racist.

In another series of revelations, Chen admits just how deep the comments went because she’s already internalised the institutionalised racism of Hollywood by getting racial transformation surgery to make herself look “less Chinese.” Specifically, she wanted and got surgery on her eyes.

“My secret dates back to — my heart is racing — it dates back to when I was 25 years old and I was working as a local news reporter in Dayton, Ohio,” Julie told The Talk for Secrets Week. “So, I asked my news director… Over the holidays if anchors want to take vacations, could I fill in? And he said, ‘You will never be on this anchor desk, because you’re Chinese.’ He said ‘Let’s face it Julie, how relatable are you to our community? How big of an Asian community do we have in Dayton? On top of that because of your Asian eyes, I’ve noticed that when you’re on camera, you look disinterested and bored.’”

Julie took note of the comments, “So I started meeting with agents for career advice, and this one big-time agent basically told me the same thing. He had the biggest names in the business. And he told me the same thing. He said, ‘I cannot represent you unless you get plastic surgery to make your eyes look better.’ He then whips out a list of plastic surgeons who have done this procedure.” Not the first time this has happened to an ethnic entertainer, nor will it be the last. How sad, though!

“We talked about if this was denying my heritage, and whether or not I should have this done,” Julie added, of a discussion with her parents. “Eventually, my mom said, ‘You wouldn’t have brought this up to me unless this was something that you wanted to do.’ And they told me that they’d support me, and they’d pay for it, and that they’d be there for me.”

“I have to live with every decision that I’ve made,” Julie added. “And it got me to where we are today. And I’m not going to look back.”

Here’s the before and after of which she says, ”If you look at the “after,” the eyes are bigger, I look more alert…more expressive. I will say, after I had that done, the ball did roll for me. Which I struggle with, you know, wow. Did I give in to ‘the man’ and do this?”
