Watch Breaking Amish Retrospective: Season One Episodes 1-10 Highlights Video
November 12, 2012 by Hollywoodite
Breaking Amish will come to a close next week with season one episode 12 The Shunning Truth part two (part one aired after the season finale).
Breaking Amish has been extremely popular since its pilot episode that premiered to enviable numbers. From the early episodes, however, it became apparent that the cast had storied histories. Some of which would be covered on the show but most of which would be hidden, obfuscated, embellished, fabricated, or whatever behooved TLC for ratings that week.
For example, the D.U.I. arrest of Kate Stoltzfus was probably only addressed because it happened almost immediately before filming. But it doesn’t appear as though the criminal histories of Jeremiah Raber, Abe Schmucker, or Sabrina Burkholder’s boyfriend-on-the-show, Harry Kreiser III (arrested September 2, 2012 for domestic violence offenses… although it’s not clear whether he attacked Burkholder or an old girlfriend), were ever addressed on the show.
Also, Rebecca Byler’s ex-husband was only mentioned to fill a plot hole. And Byler’s daughter was also mentioned, awkwardly, to fill a plot hole. And Raber never directly mentions his three children, only covering over his ex-wife’s name in an old tattoo that’s been passed for new ink on the show.
When accused of fraud and fabricating-more-of-the-show-than-not, TLC initially said in a statement: “Some of the claims are true… they will be addressed.” To date, most of the claims have been addressed. Although handled rather amateurishly. When viewers were STILL unsatisfied, TLC confirmed the reunion episodes would give viewers some closure.
You can watch a retrospective in this video from TLC that shows the Breaking Amish season one highlights.
