TLC is really cranking out the reality shows with the successful Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Breaking Amish under its belt (and sister network Discovery is getting ready to debut a show called Amish Mafia). The shows are getting more ratings the more contrived, the more exaggerated, and the more arcane the lifestyle on display. In this instance, the show will be about women from their mid-50s to mid-70s who pursue intimate relationships with men young enough to be their sons or grandsons.
The ways in which TLC’s Extreme Cougar Wives is contrived for ratings will probably become apparent (here’s guessing, judging from the lies told on Breaking Amish, one of the young guys on this show will probably be married with kids or they’ll be a felon or something). But, for now, we’re being led to believe the women on the show are romantically involved with the young guys on the show and it appears you’re supposed to feel somewhere in between repulsed and awed by it.
Meet the Extreme Cougar Wives. TLC will follow three women and their younger men as part of a new special highlighting cougar relationships.
In the November 25 special, viewers will meet 76-year-old Hattie, 65-year-old Stephanie and her 28-year-old [lover] Octavio, and 53-year-old Jude and her 21-year-old lover Kevin.
Hattie loves younger men and meets 25-year-old Andrew while going for a swim at her hotel pool… Jude met Kevin seven years ago when he was dating her daughter. The two say they are committed for life, but Kevin hasn’t told his family, including his mother, who is younger than Jude. – via The Huffington Post.
