Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Didn’t Choose a K-Name Because of the KKK

It was the name heard around the world. When reality TV star Kim Kardashian and Kanye West released the name of their newborn daughter, fans everywhere were shocked that it did not begin with a K.
Kim, her mother Kris, sisters Kourtney and Khloe, and step sisters Kendall and Kylie all begin with a K and Kim was expected to carry on the tradition. Instead, the couple went with North and Kim is finally explaining why.
On a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, a then seven-months pregnant Kim confided to her family that she and Kanye were thinking about naming their daughter something with a K. However, Kim was hesitant of how the public would react. ”Our kid, if it’s a K, then they’ll call us the KKK,” she explained to stepbrother Brody Jenner, referencing the Ku Klux Klan, the infamous white supremacist group. Brody argued that the public isn’t that crazy. But Kim is no stranger to being criticized for her every move and, unsurprisingly, she does not want her daughter to grow up like that.
Kim’s fears got the best of her and she decided she no longer wanted a K name. Instead, she tried brainstorming names with Brody and sister Kourtney. “I’m feeling North,” Brody said, “North West.” Kourtney was quick to agree, exclaiming, “Me too! It’s pretty and cool.” Two months later, North West was born.
Of course the name brought along a wave of controversy but when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are involved, would you expect anything else?
