Will Smith & Jada Pinkett: Split Denials, Cheating Denials, Marriage Still In Trouble

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith took their sweet time bothering to respond to a sourced exclusive in In Touch Weekly about trouble in their marriage and a separation that even TMZ.com’s sources claim is imminent.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are having significant problems in their marriage, but they have NOT made a decision to separate… at least not yet… this according to sources connected with the couple.
Reports have been swirling that the couple has separated. We’re told it’s “definitely a possibility” but they haven’t pulled the trigger. In fact, we’ve learned Will, Jada and their kids are going away together soon, as a family. Our sources would neither confirm nor deny if the trip is a last ditch effort to save the relationship.
We also asked our sources about the somewhat curious statement from Will and Jada, that their marriage is “intact.” Specifically, why didn’t they go the more traditional PR route and say they’re still in love and committed to each other? Our sources privately said, the language was carefully constructed. – via TMZ.
It was reported by ITW that the couple were over after 13-years of marriage. ITW claimed the exclusive from an unnamed source and the shock alone got the story more coverage than a tabloid deserves. It was a bizarre thing to watch it spread on Twitter as though 100% confirmed fact from some reputable source. There DOES appear to be trouble in the marriage of the couple who once claimed “divorce is not an option,” but they’re together for now.
This could be another elaborate denial, per the divorce of Eva Longoria and Tony Parker. TMZ found out about the divorce and they were legally-pressured to retract the true story as Longoria lied to the press about TMZ’s credibility and readied herself for the release of her own statement. It was a mess. An annoying mess of lies and that’s generally what happens when the news leaks early; a denial followed by an almost immediate confirmation that they are splitting. And that MAY BE what’s happening here.
Smith/ Pinkett-Smith don’t seem to have told their kids about this yet. Smith’s 18-year-old son Trey went on Twitter to claim the couple were together, “‘Did #WillandJada split? No they did NOT split! False information … its not true RETWEET!!! Everyone can think what they want … even if its not true.”
Soon after, looking at this in the order it happened, the couple’s rep denied that Pinkett-Smith had an affair with Marc Anthony on the set of HawthoRNe. “All the rumors regarding Marc Anthony and Jada are false. Completely untrue,” Pinkett-Smith’s rep told People. “As for [the reports of a split between] Will and Jada, I’m not commenting on their personal life.” Added Anthony’s rep, “We unequivocally deny this. Enough is enough. There are families involved, children involved, friendships involved. This is NOT true.”
Only after those denials was there a terse statement with wording so weird it merited comment from TMZ “Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact.”
Huh? Intact???
Yes, the wording feels cold and careful. Perhaps it’s the bare-minimum as the couple seek legal council, RadarOnline claims they’re covering themselves legally, perhaps to later sue ITW? “Will and Jada are not splitting and they’ve already got their legal team involved,” a source claimed. “Like any other A-list couple they’re used to inaccurate reports sometimes, but when it comes to their marriage, they don’t appreciate anyone demeaning it… They’re good sports and they’re laughing about it, but they have to talk about it with their legal council to protect themselves.”
