August 20, 2013 by Lindsay Cronin
Lucas Cruikshank aka Fred Figglehorn of YouTube fame has just came out of the closet and announced that he is gay. The internet sensation, who currently stars on Nickelodeon’s Marvin Marvin, came clean about his sexuality during a chat with fans earlier this morning on his popular YouTube channel.
In the short video, Lucas and his close friend and network buddy Jennifer Veal (of Nickolodean’s Jessie) answered several questions from fans and among them was the unavoidable, “Are you gay?” After Jennifer read the question, Lucas started to giggle saying, “It’s so funny hearing you say it.” Then, she answered the question for him. “He’s gay!”
Seconds later, Lucas confirmed his friend’s announcement, telling listeners, “I’m gay.”
“It feels so weird saying it,” he continued. “My friends and family have known for like three years, I just haven’t felt the need to announce it on the internet.”
After Lucas’ homemade YouTube videos reached over 500 million views, he was contacted by Nickelodeon and in 2009, he made a guest appearance in iCarly, a sitcom based on a group of friends who have a web show. The episode titled iMeetFred did amazing numbers for the network and led to a second network appearance on Hannah Montana and the creation of Fred: The Movie. That same year, Lucas won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Web Star.
Since then, Lucas has starred in two follow-up Fred movies as well as Fred: The Show, a television series. Last year, he landed the starring role in Marvin Marvin which continues to run on Nickelodeon.
